The field of functional safety (SIL) is in a process of change. National standards are being removed in order to be replaced by new, international standards.

The new SIL manual from Pepperl+Fuchs describes some of those aspects of the recently published standards which are relevant especially for safety-related systems in the process industry. It also considers their effect on the specifications of sensors and interface components for signal transmission.

The manual contains two main subjects. The first section details vital aspects of the SIL standards and is of key interest to persons that:
